pouring

Thinking about Wolfgang Tillmans "Freischwimmer 102" (top)...his strands remind me of Peter Doig's "Figures in a Red Boat," 2005-07 (middle), and of course Morris Louis' majestic "Breaking Hue," 1954 (bottom). Tillmans gets the idea of pouring across -- though he's not pouring; he's placing, then exposing the paper to light. Doig plays directly on Louis' idea of pouring paint.

Come to think of it, Barnaby Furnas toys with a similar idea. But his pours have speed, unlike Louis' and Doig's.

morning coffee... a brawl

Wondering if art could be better than photo-journalist Sergei Supinsky's "Parliamentary brawl in Ukraine," front page, International Herald Tribune. Cartier-Bresson (middle), Caravaggio's "Taking of Christ," Dublin (bottom).
